My Story

Two years ago, I lost my darling mum to cancer.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of her. I miss the conversations we can no longer have, the moments we can no longer share, and the simple comfort of knowing she was there. Losing someone you love so deeply changes you forever.

My mum was a very private person, which is why I haven't chosen to fundraise in her name. Instead, I want to honour her memory in a way that reflects the kindness, strength and quiet dignity with which she lived her life.

I'm taking on this challenge to raise money to support triple-negative breast cancer, one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer. While breast cancer affects around 1 in 7 women during their lifetime, this particular type is more likely to affect younger women and can be especially difficult to treat.

When I think about why this matters so much to me, I think about families. I think about children who still need their mum. I think about partners, parents, siblings and friends who aren't ready to say goodbye. I think about all the precious moments that cancer can steal far too soon.

If this fundraising can help even one family have more time together, if it can help one young mum watch her children grow up, celebrate birthdays, school plays, graduations and all the ordinary moments that become extraordinary memories, then every step of this run will be worthwhile.

I can't change what happened to my mum, and I would give anything to have her back. But I can try to turn that loss into something positive. I can run in the hope that future families may be spared some of the heartache that mine has experienced.

Thank you for supporting me, for supporting this cause, and for helping to create hope where it is needed most.
